word in ms office xp crashed out on me while i was in the middle of a document. when i started it back up, it didn't give me the document recovery task pane like normal on the left hand side to select the latest temp file. where can i find the place to bring that task pane for document recovery up so i can recover my file? Thanks in advance!

On one occasion, a user didn’t see the Document Recovery task pane when he restarted Word 2002 after a system problem. However, when he opened a document he had been working on, it was clearly damaged; there were weird characters within the text, and the formatting was changed. He closed the document, and then forced the repair process using a new option available in the Office XP Open dialog box. Here’s how it works: open the standard Open dialog box and select the file. Click the Open button in the lower right corner and select Open and Repair from the drop-down list box. Voila! The only reason that the help desk was involved in this recovery operation is because the user didn't know that this new Open and Repair option is available from the Open dialog box.
