The poor victim emailed the file to me, and we can open the suspect embedded object (I opened a bunch of them in case he identified the wrong one). He gets the error:
Microsoft Word can't start the application required to open this object. An error occurred and this function is no longer functioning properly. Would you like to repair this feature now?
Victim has tried reinstalling MS Office 2000 - no dice.
We are checking to make sure he can open Excel at all.
He intimates that he can open the other embedded xls files in the document; double-checking on that too.
The doc is HUGE - 116 pages long. Will also be checking his hard drive resources for clues.
Any other ideas? Tried MS KB - nothing really interesting, but if you saw something, could you let me know?
