I'm looking to virtualize a few existing physical Win2000/2003 servers, and the MS Virtual Server Migration Tool looks perfect. Except... per this FAQ ( ) I need to have a Windows 2003 Enterprise Server running Automated Deployment Services. Which just turned a free tool into a $4000 tool. Does anyone know of any (legal) ways around needing Enterprise Server to virtualize an existing physical Windows server?

I'm having the same issue- Running x64 2003, std edition.

I ended up getting an eval copy of Win2k3 Enterprise server and installing everything using that.

Of course, I then ran across the roadblock that the VSMT will not P2V Dynamic disk partitions.

At that point I got a single-use ("project edition") license of Platespin's PowerConvert. Worked pretty well.
