I wasn't sure whether to post this here or in the Browser issues for IT professionals forum but I figured I'd post here because it is actually and update issue, not an IE issue per se. I'm sorry if I've posted in the wrong forum.
We only have 22 clients so rather than use automatic updates or WSUS I remotely and manually do the MS updates each month. Logging on to each machine also gives me a chance to check out what the users have been up to, do a defrag if necessary, etc.
Yesterday, when I went to update a couple of clients (I only do 2 or 3 the 1st day to make sure that none the updates are going to cause issues), I noticed that the IE 7 update was listed despite the fact that I had hidden the update last month. I thought maybe I'd just forgotten to hide it on these 2 machines. However, today when I ran the updates on my personal notebook IE7 was listed as an update. I am absolutely certain that I had hidden the update on my machine. Also, on all the other clients the IE7 update is unhidden and listed for download.
I have hidden updates before and they have remained hidden. It just seems to be IE7 that MS is trying to install even after you hide it. Has anyone else experienced this? I thought that once you hid an MS update then you would be warned each time that you went to do the updates that you had chosen an important or critical update to be hidden and it would remain hidden unless you chose to unhide it. I know that it remained hidden each time I went to the MS update site right up until the December updates were issued.
I don't want to install IE7 yet as 2 or 3 of our apps, including all versions of QuickBooks and earlier versions of Simply Accounting, have not been certified to run with IE7. Since we're an acccounting office we can't just run the latest version of all the apps, we have to run and support what our clients are using. Therefore, we have serveral versions of different accounting and tax software installed.
Thanks.
