I'm pulling data into an Excel (97) worksheet via MS Query. Is there any way to refresh the data on a timed basis, and without opening the workbook. What I'm trying to achieve, is a workbook that is used as a central data repository for other workbooks that will use VLOOKUP. But I would like to get rid of the dependence on needing someone to open the workbook to update it.

Thanks Chris

It worked yesterday.
It doesn't work today.
That's Windows!

The simple answer to this (as far as I am aware) is "no". The way Excel works, an in particular, if you want updates and formulas to work is that the worksheet/book has to be open.

You might be able to open the file up automatically, run an "update" macro which refreshes the data and then closes the worksheet/book, but you would need to get a utility for that. There are a few shareware/freeware utils that do that type of thing.
