MS Project Task Notes-issues

I am trying to save a project as .xls for future import into Lotus Notes. Every resource I have seen states that the Task Notes field is limited to 255 characters. Is there a workaround for this? When I am in Project I see all my text, but the spreadsheet shows only 255.

Also, when there is a carriage return in the Notes field, Projecty sees that as the end of the note. Has there been a fix that I can't find?? Please help!
