This is a new problem that has only started in the last few weeks. I am running Win 98SE and when I try to open any jpeg files (either as attachments on emails or through Win Explorer), Photoeditor starts up but the image will not open. The only way to get the file to open is to open Photoeditor first and then browse to the file.

Any ideas?
Thanks

I would simply uninstall PhotoEditor, and then reinstall it.
It seems that this is an issue with file attributes, and which program is assigned to them, in this case your program associated with your pictures, the jpg's and gif's.
It maybe that you have upgraded your IE, and this modified
some registry entries.

Uninstalling and reinstalling should correct this issue.

Thanks for that, I'll give it a try and see what happens

Just remembered, Photoeditor is not a program that you install, it's found in c:\program files\common files\microsoft shared\photo ed, all I did originally was to copy this entire folder there. You are right though with regards to upgrading IE, I've moved up to v6. If it has modified the registry in any way, any ideas how to get the associations back to where they were before?

Thanks

bobdylan,

One great thing about Windows:

1.) Navigate to a file type that you want to change, like a "*.jpg" file.
2.) Highlight the file.
3.)Hold the shift key, and simulataneously right-click the highlighted file.
4.) Now, there will be a menuchoice called "Open With".
5.) Release the shift key, and click on "Open With".
6.) Using the "Choose Program window, select the program of your choice from the list, or navigate to another folder or program to select an executable to open *.jpg with.
7.) Once you've made your choice, DON'T FORGET TO CLICK THE "Always Use this program...." CHOICE!
8.) Now you should be good to go!

Sorry, tried that but with no success, has only really started happening since going up to IE6, thanks anyway

bdylan,
send me your e-mail address and I will send you a copy of Photo Editor by e-mail. I've put it in several computers and have never had any trouble. It isn't always with Windows, so I keep a copy on a floppy in case I have to format. jholloway@erols.com .

bobdylan,

Open Windows Explorer, go to View>Folder Options, click the File Types tab. Click New Type...

Type Jpg for Description of type.
Type .jpg for associated extension.
Type open under Action.
Type "C:\Progra~1\Intern~1\iexplore.exe" -nohome for application used to perform action.
Click the use DDE check box.
Type "file:%1",,-1,,,,, for DDE Message.
Type IExplore for Application.
Type under Topic.
Click OK, Apply, OK.

If the jpg entry already exists, just modify it using the info above.

I tried this thanks. The pictures WILL open in IE like they should. I then replaced your IExpore with PhotoEditor again and it still won't open! Just also just tried it with Pain Shop Pro 7 and that opens OK as well. Looks like my PhotoEditor may be corrupted somehow. I'll keep trying...
