Hi there,
discovered very annoying problem today when using MS Outlook! When sending an email in rich text format and then attaching a document my recipients do not receive the attachment.
However if I send the email as plain text and attach a document in exactly the same way my recipients do receive the attachment.

Anyone know what the problem is here and how I can configure Outlook so that it is possible to send attachments with Rich Text emails???

Any advice much appreciated,
thanks, Lavaghman

Hi lavaghman,

This can happen (with Outlook 2000 and earlier only I think) when sent to someone using a non-Outlook e-mail client. When using rich text or HTML formats, Outlook packages everything up in a file called winmail.dat which can only be interpreted by Outlook and/or Exchange; other clients can't unscramble it.

If you Google (or you could try M$'s now officially announced new msn search if you're brave) for winmail.dat you should find information and I think you can even find a reader (but of course it's the recipient who needs it, not you). Alternatively, as you've discovered, use plain text when sending attachments.

Enjoy,
Tony

Hi,
I agree with Tony about it being non-Outlook recipients. I use Outlook and my problem is with Groupwise. In Groupwise 6.5, you can set it to view HTML and that helped solve my problem.

Best,
