MS Excel view

I have an issue with MS Excel 2002/XP. Everytime I open an Excel file, it does not display the contents of it, it gives me a blank page. I have to choose the FILE/OPEN and then look for the file that I need to open.
If someone sends me a Excell file and I save it anywhere on the computer with any name possible, while trying to open it will give me a blank page.

Does anyone know how to fix this?
