thanks, have just been looking for info on netstat and nbtstat, there it was!

On your desktop, right click a blank area of the desktop and choose New, Shortcut and enter:
%Windir%\Help\ntcmds.chm

You will want to thank me a million times for having this shortcut on your desktop.

Best wishes,
Bill Castner

bcastner,

on windows 2000 Small Business Server i did this and got the following in the shortcut that was created

About this Help file

This Help file contains topics integrated into the main
Windows 2000 Help and is not meant for browsing. For
overviews of features and help with specific tasks, click
Start, and then click Help.

The Help system is different under XP than under Win2k.

Does this tip work on an XP workstation?

I will research and try to modify the tip for Win2k SBS later .

Try as the shortcut target for Win2k SBS:

hh.exe mk:mad:MSITStore:C:\WINNT\Help\windows.chm::/ntcmds.htm

Yeah it works in XP no probs, cheers

Thank you paulhthomas.

I wrote this little shortcut ages ago and use it every day.

I've just joined the server team in the company I work for and they're always aying to me, try this command, try that command and I never know what any of them mean.

Well, the little shortcut trick should help in this regard. Be sure to write down what is being asked, and research the suggestions later.

If you are providing an accurate description of your company IT's center, this sort of chaos is not normal. But enjoy the shortcut trick, I use it frequently.

yep bcastner works a treat, cheers

maximusimo,

You owe me a beer for the Win2k SBS answer.

Just kidding.

bcastner

Thank you I tried %Windir%\Help\ntcmds.chm in XP Home and this gave me the following message

About this Help file
The topics in this Help file are integrated into Help and Support Center. To view these topics, click Start, and then click Help and Support.

I then tried the Win2K SBS suggestion hh.exe mk:mad:MSITStore:C:\WINNT\Help\windows.chm::/ntcmds.htm which brings up the full help window.

Is this the correct result for this shortcut?

I do not know what Hotfixes you have applied or at what service pack level you are.

This has been fiddled with by Microsoft. If my original advice above does not work, see:

822989 - Links in HTML Help Topics Are Unavailable or No Longer Work

811630 - HTML Help Update to Limit Functionality When It Is Invoked with the window.showHelp( ) Method

You might also try:

hh.exe mk:mad:MSITStore:C:\%windir%\Help\windows.chm::/ntcmds.htm

Important edit.

You might also try:

hh.exe mk:mad:MSITStore:%windir%\Help\windows.chm::/ntcmds.htm

Bill, you da man. Don't have a million stars to give though, just one...

elmurado,

Thank you.

I really do use this shortcut at least once a day.

Brill,
Bill, this has to be one of the "must have" short cuts of all time, we thank our lucky stars you are part of this forum, and you earn yet another star.

Only the good die young, me I'm here forever :)
