How can i remove a PC from a access workgroup.

Not sure how the PC started asking for a user id and prompt when logging into Access 97. Should not be a member of a workgroup and cant see how I can remove it.

I would like the machine to use access as nomal without any workgroup login.

Any advise would be helpful

Cheers

Hi

In Access97 the admin program to do this is not 'integrated' into Access, it is a seperate exe called (I think) wkGrAdm.Exe

On the offending PC, joind the a workgroup which has not password on the Admin User

Sorry I didnt quite understand.

What do I need to do on the offending PC?

Hi

Sorry

On the offending PC, join a workgroup which has no password on the Admin User,

or if no such Workgroup exists, create one and join it

Thanks I will try this.

Will re-installing also clear the problem?

Hi

Not sure, I cannot recall, it is a long time since I installed Acecss97 ?, but even so it seems like a sledge hammer to crack a nut

Yes, reinstalling would fix the problem.

Ken's right though, it is a little extreme.

The exe file name for Workgroup Administrator is wrkgadm.exe

That worked fine - thankyou very much.

Does this mean by default access uses a workgroup without any security. Its only when you add passwords and username that you get the prompts.

Or has this machine somehow been setup to use workgroups.

Problem solved but im curious now

When you launch MS Access you are always using a Workgroup file (type ?DBEngine.SystemDB in the Debug window to see which one you are connected to).

By default Access goes in on the Admin user account. Once you have password protected this user you will be prompted for a password.

MDWs - Contain user and group accounts and password information.

MDBs - Contain the permissions information for each of the database objects.
