I installed MRTG a few years back when I had a combined 10 Unix servers, as time went on and the number of servers in my environment grew I began to see several instances of unreliable data feeds. The trend being that as my environment grew, MRTG did not scale accordingly.
Take it for what it's worth. Just my personal experience.
