Hi all,

I am a "casual" user of Visual Basic, basically for small projects at my company. I have not done my research yet but had two questions.

1. Is it possible to run VB 6 and VB.NET on the same machine? And package applications without conflicts with DLL’s, etc.

2. Are there any "major" disadvantages to start building new projects in VB.NET and migrating old ones from VB 6 to .Net?

I know this is a major discussion and I am sure there are many variables that must be answered first. But just at the most basic level as my applications are usually very simple. However, they all require a connection to one or more SQL Server DB's and from what I have “heard” DB connectivity is much better with .Net.

Thanks,

MDA

First off,

I am new to VB as well and am using VB6. From what I have heard VB.NET is a better language but vastly different from VB6. One major disadvantage is that the .NET executable will not run on any computer that does not have the .NET framework installed. So if your programs are simple and the users do not have the framework I would suggest sticking to VB6 for the time being. Hopefully someone who knows more about this subject will add to this thread.
