We are planning a move to AD 2003 and exchange 2003. We don't want to have to do this at the same time. Any suggestions as to which to pursue first? Is there one way better than the other? I know there are problems extending the schema to 2003 AD and exchange 2000. I'm just wondering which was is the best to do this.

if you need Exchange 2003 you would have to upgrade its box to Windows 2003 server first

you definitely want to do this slowly, you want to make sure people can login the 2003 AD first before the Exchange 2003 implementation,

there are alot white paper for migration to Windows server 2003 on Microsoft's web site

I have read a lot of the white papers. I"m just wondering what has been done in 'real life' and how it has worked for people. That's more what I'm looking for I guess. Just what have other people's experiences been with upgrading fully to 2003...ad or exch first?

Also, our exchange box is separate from our DC. Exchange 2003 wouldn't have to be on a server 2003 box. That is why I'm wondering what would be the best way. We have computers at our disposal and we are going to do some testing first. Just wanting input from peopel that have done this already.

No!

The only version of Exchange that will run on WS 2003 is 2003. If you upgrade a server running Exchange 2000 to WS 2003, you will break Exchange!

Exchange 2003 can run on Windows 2000 or 2003.

sorry for my mistake, good thing the pre install program would have catch that
