Hi Guys

Soon I will have to move our current exchange 2003 to a new server and domain. Currently there is an Exchange on this new domain already and i need to add my one as well.

Can anyone suggest the best way to do this? The safest way with the least downtime.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks

Ben

You can't take that server and put it into a new domain.
So, with that fact in mind what do you want to do?
You can use ADMT and MAILMIG to take the accounts and mailboxes to a new server or you can leave them as they are.
Have a think and come back with your hardware options (both temporary and otherwise)

Thanks for your reply.

I will be getting a new server. My plan was to exmerge the old mailboxs and put them on to the new server.

Also will there be any issues with having a 2nd exchange on the same domain? Will they conflict etc?

Why would they both be on the same domain? I thought you were attempting to move to another domain. Put the new server in the new domain. Exmerge the mail out from the old server on the old domain and Exmerge it in on the new server on the new domain. Simple as that.

Currently we have a sister company in a different country configured as a WAN. There exchange server is on domain x and ours is on domain y. Our server is old so the idea is to get a new one and put it on there domain. Speed issues are why we are putting a second one on theres.

You're confusing me. Are both domains part of the same forest? If you're going to put your Exchange server on their domain, how are you going to handle authentication? Bandwidth?

I think by domain he means same SMTP address space. I do wish people wouldn't say Domains when they really mean Domains. It's just so confusing :-)
says you can share address spaces.
It might be best if you just took a look at that and cleared up your question a bit and then came back here.
Don't confuse Pat. He's old enough as it is, we don't want him going ga-ga on us.

Yeah - I'm old. Although not as old as Mark. And I'm already Ga-Ga.
