Moving Exchange 2000 from one server to a better server..suggestions?

Hi all-

We actually did this about one year ago.. We literally copied all the MDBDATA folders from one server to another and then built the other server up with Windows 2000, all SP's, DCPROMO then installed Exchange server and the MDBDATA folder was copied to this box from the older server.. I forgot all the detailed steps but I'm sure it will come back to me as we're in the midst of this task.. Any suggestions as for making this task alittle easier.. Unfortunately, we aren't doing this via a restore from a backup tape.. our backup drive is currently on the fritz so we're just doing it the old fashioned way... massive moves for the Information store! any tips would be most appreciated!

Stop inbound emails.
Take a very good backup.
Drop all services.
Copy priv, pub, dir, logs etc to member server so they are accessible.
