MY DOMAIN CONTROLLER IS ON OLD SERVER AND I WANT TO MOVE THAT TO NEW SERVER, WHAT ARE THE STEPS I NEED TO FOLLOW. I WANT TO BE VERY CAREFULL WHILE I DO THIS.

CURRENT DOMAIN CONTROLLER HAS ALL 5 ROLES AND I INSTALLED FOREST PREP AND DOMAIN PREP ON THAT SERVER FOR EXCHANGE. NOW HOW CAN I MOVE THIS TO NEW SERVER.

THIS ARE MY THOUGHTS.
RUN DCPROMO ON NEW SERVER AND TRANSFER ALL ROLES FROM OLD SERVER?
DO I HAVE TO RUN FOREST PREP AND DOMAIN PREP AGAIN ON THE NEW SERVER OR THE SCHEMA FOR EXCHANGE WILL BE COPIED TO NEW SERVER.

SUPPOSE I ADD REPLICA OF DOMAIN , DO I HAVE TO RUN DOMAIN PREP OR IT WILL COPY INFORMATION FROM DOMAIN PARTITION ?

NEED TO DO SAME FOR EXCHANGE SERVER FROM OLD TO NEW SERVER?
NEED HELP FOR BOTH AD AND EXCHANGE?

Please don't use ALL CAPS.

You'll also need to transfer any network services that are running on the current DC, including DHCP and DNS.

Installing Exchange on a DC isn't recommended. But if you must:

It should go without saying but begin with a good and tested backup.

1. Join the new server to the domain as a member.
2. Run DCPROMO. (no need to forestprep or domain prep again).
3. Transfer the 5 FSMO roles.
4. Make new server a GC
5. Setup any services such as DHCP, WINS, DNS

Because the existing server is running Exchange you will not be able to run DCPROMO on it until Exchange is removed.

Note: it is recommended to NOT install Exchange on a DC.

6. Install Exchange on the new server.
7. Use MoveMailbox wizard to move users to new server.
8. Migrate Public folders with PFMIGRATE or replication or by exporting data to a PST.
9. Direct incoming email to new servers IP address.
10. Remove Exchange on old server
11. Run DCPROMO on old server to remove AD

Done.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Mark

when adding your first 2003 on to your NT/2000 domain must you first run the forestprep and domainprep on your excisting 2000 GC, before making the 2003 server a DC and transfering the roles?

When you run /forestprep and /domainprep, you need to run those on your existing schema master.

My exchange is not on a Domain Controller. Domain controller is by itself with DNS services and exchange by itself.

I only want to transfer all roles and data from old to new domain and old exchange server to new exchange server.

It's clear for domain from what Markdmac said but what about extending schema on domain for exchange. I dont need to run that again as it will be transfer to my new domain controller from old one, right?

About exchange server.
what option do I select when installing exchange. exchange in existing organisation and than move all mailbox and PF and configure internet mail and I am done?

If the existing DC is 2003 there is no need to run ADPREP again. If the existing Exchange is also 2003 there is no need to run setup with /Forestprep or /Domainprep.

You can only expand the schema once.

I hope you find this post helpful.

I agree with Mark.

As far as Exchange, add it to the existing org and site. Follow the last two link in my previous post to finish.
