I had an old RS/6000 F50 machine with AIX 4.3.3 that crashed. It's not worth the price to get IBM in for service, but I want to retrieve the files on it's disks.

I have a 43P model 150 running AIX 5.1 with one drive bay available to which I could add the F50 disks one at a time to copy the contents.

I'm having a hard time adding the volume with smit. How can I add and mount one of these disks and get my files back?

Put the drive in the new box - then importvg hdisk1. It will rename the volume group - if you already have that volume group on the box. Then vary on the volume group, etc.
