I want to move a router from a 4506 to a 6509 from an interface on VLAN 1 to an identically configured VLAN 1 interface. Once I have moved the router the show mac-address command on the new switch shows no mac address. Moving it back and everything works. I think I didn't wait long enough for the ARP cache to clear am I correct?

if your router didn't send out anything then I don't think your switch will have the MAC record in its table. You can actually just ping the router once then you can get both the MAC and ARP entry.
