Folks:

One of our clients had thier exchange 2000 server's only hard drive die. Note: We have the priv1.edb file from the old server.

We built a new Exchange 2000 server and have it installed and on the network. How can we do the manual version of a "mailbox" move now that the old server is offline? I imagine we could restore the entire database to the new server...but AD is still going to be pointing to the old server?

Thanks
Coty

If you have the priv1.edb/stm files, you may not need Power Control. If you know the properties of the old database, you may be able to recreate it in the new server and then shut down store.exe, replace the files with the copies you have, and restart store.exe.

Power Control may be faster, though.

It can get a bit messy, but this is because you have a new server.

What I would have done is copy all the DBS and logs off the old server. Then take it offline and install a new server with the Disasterrecovery switch. After that, copy all the logs and databases back except for the damaged one. When you mount them all, a blank database will be created where the damage one was. DO a consistency check and all the mailboxes are back, albiet emtpy. Mailfow is restored, and you have time to work the issue of recovering the missing mail offline. You could at that point:

1. Restore the single DB from backup
2. Attempt a repair of the single DB
3. Use a tool like power controls to rip the mail out of the old db and stuff it into the new.

Hope this helps.
