We have a Sun Enterprise server which has a L9 DLT backup unit attached. This is to be phased out ( the server that is ).

Problem is that the backup server software (Netbackup) is installed on the old server.

I have the software. I want to move the L9 and software over to a newer (V480) server, which was already being backed up by the old server.

I have yet to find a way to to move the license over to the new server. Veritas site and admin guide do not give any good info on this. Can this be done easily and if so, how ?

If the old and new server will have the same IP and name and you are talking about either a master server or a media server and they are both unix you should have no trouble. I've done this several times.

What problems are you encountering with the license?

The new server has a different ip and is already in production.

Firewall configuration issues aside, i don't think the business application licenses already installed on the server would like an ip-change ;)

In any case the environment is too small to carry an independent backup server. The backup software is just installed on the same server...

Currently the only reason the old server (an Enterprise 6500) isn't phased out, is for the backup. With multiple CPU boards and 8GB+ mem that is one hell of a backup server ;).

Ideas anyone ?
