Hi there,

this question may have been asked here before, I could not find the answer.

I used NTBACKUP to backup the SBS exchange 2003.

then I want to restore the backup to a brand new SBS exchange 2003.

basically I get rid of the old SBS doamin, copy all the mailbox to the the new domain.

NTBACKUP restore does run, but I could not mount the store.

I tried eseutil /p; eseutil /d; no luck.

someone must have done it. or whats the properly way to do it?

any comment welcome.

Mike

This kind of worries me... I don't use SBS so my assumptions are related to Active Directory in an enterprise environment. I'm pretty sure that you can't restore an exchange database into another existing organization, even if the organization names are the same. Schema, user object - GUIDs and/or SIDs would not be the same. What I would do is use the ADMigration tool to migrate your users from one domain to the other, bringig over the exchange mailboxes into a new store within the new organization. Again with SBS, I would have to research how to do this.

Use ADM - possible.
It is by design that you can't do it the way you tried.

Quickest and simplest way is to exmerge the lot out unless you fancy third party tools.

many thanks for your guys' replys.

I should have noticed SIDs and GUID were involved.

I will try exmerge.

you guys are fabulous.

Mike
