I currently need to move my devices. They are all File type devices. What would be the best method to move those volumes to new storage?

Shut down the NW server to ensure that nothing will disturb you. Then simply move all files/directories to the new file device(s). That's it.

There could be one problem, if you have selected devices for a pool. This means that the media can only me mounted on this specific device. In this case you should stage all save sets from the original volumes.

So once I copy all the files, would I then need to remove the old device I was using and change the drive letter of the new device to match the old one?

Yes and no. You must of course change the drive letter as NW needs to know where the files are located now.

You may still keep the old files (and the devices)for redundancy purposes. Just disable them if you do not want to access them.

Why not just create the new devices and then stage the data from the old devices to the new? If the device is empty, there should be no need to complicate things this way? Ofcourse, if you have marked the old device on a pool, that will cause problems. If you have a lot of pools, using nsradmin is the easiest way to check this. Inside the nsradmin prompt, you
could use this to determine what pools use what devices.
If the devices field is empty, the pools can use all available devices.

nsradmin> show name;devices
nsradmin> print type:NSR pool
