I am inheriting a fax server from another company. It was configured as a BDC in a domain.

I want to use it as a member server in my domain, and understand that I must reinstall NT4.0 to do this. However, I want to retain the programs installed on this machine, as there was a lot of configuration done that I don't want to redo.

Is this possible? Thanks for any help.

I would back up the program files and then export the keys for the specific programs from the registry. Then after installing the server you can restore the files and the reg keys. I have done this with a lot of success in the past, but I have had some major disappointments. A key concern is whether or not you can identify all the entries in the registry that affect each program. Hope this helps.
