We have our 5.5 server in our orginal NT4 domain (a1234b) and our production 2000 cluster, ADC, and OWA servers in our production domain (abcd-fin.com).

We want to move the 5.5 server to the production domain ad wanted to know if it was as easy as joining the server to the new domain or if we would need to blow away all the connectors and start from scratch.

Thanks in advance.

Hi!
I would like to clear out the configuration of your messaging environment. Please, correct me if I am wrong. You have and NT 4.0 domain and you have a Windows 2000 Active Directory. There is a trust in place between the NT 4.0 domain and W2k domain.
The Exchange 2000 is running on the cluster. You have one exchange organization and both Exchange 5.5 and Exchange 2000 are members of it. There is and ADC and a connection agreement in place between the Exchange 5.5 server and Active Directory. The SRS service is installed on the cluster.

There are a lot of assumptions in the above and it is very possible that some of them are wrong.
The hyperlink which zbnet posted is for moving an Exchange 5.5 server from one NT 4.0 domain to another NT 4.0 domain. I would say that your case is much more complicated and the instructions in this website will not be very helpful.

Please, confirm that the above configuration is correct or give more details for it and I will be happy to discuss the different options and approaches which you might consider for this migration.

PS: What is the idea behind this moving of the Exchange 5.5 server – moving mailboxes, Public Folders, contacts ?

Your assumptions are correct.

Our Child domain is having some major problems and we would like to have all of our Exchaneg Servers in the same domain.

We have installed E2K3 into our site and everything works fine except for the messages that go through the 5.5 server to our home office. I had MS take a look at this and it is a problem with the domain permissions (the trusts are gone and the domain says that there is not a PDC available even though there is one).

I figured if I could move hte 5.5 server into our main domain, everything would be easier to work with.

Moving Exchange 5.5 to AD domain is easy. I currently run Exchange 5.5 on a 2003 AD. First you want to change the 5.5 service account to one on AD. And if you current exchange 5.5 server is a member server in 4.0 domain. Just switch it to AD domain after switching the service account
