I’m not sure if this is the right forum for this problem, but here goes anyway.

I have an old (1997) PC that recently died and I have resurrected by installing a “new” mobo (Aopen AP5T). The old mobo was a Jetway old style with big socket for the keyboard and serial mouse.

The new one has the same keyboard socket and it works fine, but the mouse plugged into either comm1 or comm2 does not get detected. I have forced Win98 to install the driver for the mouse, and changed the mouse to be safe, but still it’s not detected.

The mobo supports a PS2 mouse by reserving/assigning an IRQ; I have disabled this function via its jumper setting, and still no joy.

Has anyone got any ideas on how I can persuade either Windoze to recognise the mouse or the mobo to tell windoze that one exists?

Kind regards

COB

Does this mobo use a ribbon cable to attach the serial port on the case to the board? If so is it the cable that came with the board, cause I believe there may be different pin out setups for different boards that use the cable. If it's not the right one then it won't work.
Couple other thoughts.... Try it with usb legacy devices turned off in the bios, and with PnP turned off (of course everything would have to set manually if you go this route)

Hello rockerfellerz

Long time, no speak.

You got it right. The ribbon cable to board plug is slightly different. The old one was 9 holes for 9 pins the Aopen one has 10 holes for 9 pins and it worked straight away. Big POB (pat on back).

I best let those on 95/98 forum know it's solved.

Kind regards

Hey Attrofy

I might just do that if I can find the $900 air fare.

...it had totally slipped my mind, until I saw this post, that NewEgg only ships in the US and Puerto Rico...

LOL - I was just kidding - I know everyone has a reason for sticking with the equipment they use - you should see our office - I just couldn't resist.
