Mouse problems

I have an A4 TECH optical mouse

Sometimes when the cursor moves of its own accord even though the mouse is still. It moves backwards and forwards in a small space (not like a trogan, there are no processes running that are not supposed to be). Sometimes when i am trying to move the cursor you can feel that it there is something trying to make it go the other way. This happens with default xp drivers and drivers from the a4tech website.
I have tied using different mouse mats and no mouse mat at all but it had no affect.

Sample rate: 200 reports/sec
Wheel detection: Assume wheel is present (wheel works fine)
Imput buffer length: 300 packets (highest it will go)
Fast initialization: Box is ticked, but cannot be unticked

How can i fix this?

Hi
In safe mode remove all drivers relevant to the device from Device Manager.
Re-start in normal mode and let OS install its own drivers.
On the other hand it might just be a faulty mouse.

I did what you said and it made the Fast initialization tickbox untickable but it did not fix it. (with fast initialization on or off)
Is my mouse definately faulty? If i was to give it back i would have trouble proving that it was broken because it works most of the time.

Also is it normal for the mouse to go everywhere if you move it very fast from left to right?

No it is not normal for the courser to go everywhere.
Have you tested another optical mouse with your pc or your mouse in another pc?

At this point all I could suggest would be to shutdown and replace the mouse and keyboard with plain vanilla type mouse and keyboard and see if they work.

I occasionally get a problem with the cursor appearing to jump up and down in an erratic fashion using Microsoft's Optical Intellimouse.
Holding the mouse upside down and shaking it seems to correct it and since the problem only comes along once every few months, I can live with turning my mouse upside down and shaking it once in awhile. Here's hoping your problem is also something simple. Good luck.
