Mouse moves too slow

I am having trouble with my mouse moving too slowly. The mouse has been cleaned and works fine at the desktop (when no applications are open) however, when I move it up to over the buttons area at the top of my Wordperfect application it all of a sudden crawls as if in slow motion no matter how fast I move the mouse. When the mouse is down in the text writing area of my application it works just fine. I am using Windows 95 with 32 meg of RAM. This problem is nothing major but very aggrivating for the user. Never seem this before and don't know anything else to do.

I would probally upgrade the rams , or at the least unload many applications at the time, it seems in the situation of the wordperfect you mentioned, when moving the mouse up there, the program may have some kind of "Onmouse over" event, that causes the computer speed in general to become slow as it is using more processes of the CPU and/or rams.

I suspect of you are using wordperfect then you have the corel suite installed. If this is true then there should be a bunch of "easy access" icons beside the clock in the taskbar. Turn these off and you should notice a dramitic difference.

kb224 and fenris,
I should have mentioned that I have the Microsoft Office 97 Pro Suite, but have Wordperfect 6.1 as another wordprocessor because I like some of the features. Any time I have a dialog box open such as when you use FILE / PRINT and the dialog box opens to select print options the mouse drags across these types of areas also.I have re-seated the RAM to make sure I didn't have chip creep. I have at start-up approx. 7 things that start and go to the task bar, some of these are Norton Anti-Virus, realplayer, and Juke box. I am using a Gateway 200 Meg. PI with 32 meg. of RAM.
I will try these other suggestions, but felt like I needed to give more info. today.

If you have MS office, disable fast find. It is notorious for hogging system resources and doesn't really serve much purpose to 99% of the people using office.
