Mouse hangs/system hangs in Netscape 4.67

I am running Netscape Nav 4.67 on P-III 550 with 128SDRAM, 9.9GB FREE, OS-Windows ME. Whenever I am on the internet (DSL Connection) and attempt to load a page, my mouse pointer hangs and page won't load.

I have tried reinstalling and have looked for conflicts (IRQ), tried disenabling JAVA. Still have the problem. Currently, I solve the problem by device manager," refresh", but my band-aid solution is starting to get on my nerves.

Question. Can two devices share the same IRQ #? Device Manager indicates no conflicts anywhere, but I have two different devices sharing the same number?

If the devices are PCI cards then theoretically yes they can. However if the two cards are both network cards this can cause big trouble. How is your DSL connected, USB or NIC?

My DSL MODEM is connected to a Network Card. I had a 56v.90 exter modem before and eveything worked great (Besides a slow connection of course) and went to DSL and now my systems hangs whenever I surf. I'm wondering if it is a software conflict somewhere?

What devices are sharing the same IRQ?

NVIDA VIDEO CARD and Ethernet Adapter are using IRC 11, but no conflicts detected.
And USB Controller and PCI Audio Accelerator using IRQ 10, no conflicts and no USB devices attached. Mouse is using IRC 12, nothing else is and it's still floppying out. It's not the mouse, happens with Intellimouse and the one that came with the computer, I've updated all drivers, de-installed the mouse and had windows detect it and install the software from system files. Still plagued with mouse pointer madness!

Since the mouse works except for online, it is less likely to be the problem, it could be something crashing the mouse or screen drivers. The fact that the screen is effected suggests that there is maybe a problem with either the NIC or DSL drivers, and the mouse just gets 'caught up in it'. As to what could be done, it may be worth while uninstalling the NIC, moving it to a different slot, and allow it to be reinstalled, hopefully with a different IRQ. If this makes no difference, at least you can discount it, let me know what happens.

Fixed the problem by following advice. Switched ethernet card to an open slot and re-installed the drivers and restarted computer and PRESTO! Thanks Paulwood for the advice.
