Mouse freezes for a few seconds then returns?

I am running W2K on a Athlon K7T Pro (MS6330) board and Award bios ver 6.00 PG.

My PS2 mouse stopped working completely and so I tried my USB mouse which works intermittently, any suggestions?

Check if any other devices are sharing the interupt with the usb port. Every additional device that is will slow down the mouse.
