WinXP...I don't know what I have done...If the mouse is on a particular screen and I move it over a screen at the back it changes the focus to the screen at the back. Is there a preference setting that controls this functionality? It is really annoying:-(

Cheers!

The easiest way to adjust Focus settings is to use either Microsoft's Powertoy TweakUi for XP, or Xteq's freeware utility Xsetup.
For TweakUI, General, Focus, check to prevent applications from stealing focus.

Thanks for the reply...

I tried TweakUI and disabled the focus. It is still stealing the focus. I got Xsetup but cannot find the focus control.

Any other ideas?

Thanks!! :)

Found this out on WinGuides, it might be of use.

User Key: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop]
Value Name: UserPreferencemask, UserPreferencesMask, ActiveWindowTracking, ActiveWndTrkTimeout, Focus
Value Data: (0=disable, 1=enable)

What type of mouse are you using? Have you checked out any options under "mouse" in the Control Panel?

Tell us a bit more about your system, how long have you been with XP. Is it an upgrade or clean install.

When using Tweakui or Xsetup it is often necessary to reboot your machine for any settings to take. In Xsetup the plugin you are looking for may be under Appearance/ Taskbar/ Taskbar options.

Some general things to try.

See if System Restore will get you back to a restore point before your problem with the Mouse.

Try Safe Mode (Do you have this problem in Safe Mode?).

Run the System File Checker program from the Run Box by typing.....Sfc /Scannow in it and have your XP CD handy.

If they don't work you could try repairing windows itself by running it over itself. You will lose all your windows updates but your files will be untouched.

Thanks very much for all your responses....this is by far the best forum I have found for help - it is great!!

I tried some of your ideas and the tip about Xteq and TweakUI did not work but seemed to make sense. I then remembered that I had Tweak-XP and after much searching I found "Enable mouse tracking with your cursor" hidden deep in the Misc Tweaks!

Much thanks once again for pointing me in the right direction and getting rid of a highly annoying issue!!!

Cheers!
