Hi,

I have rebuilt an Exchange 2003 server back into our AD using the setup /disasterrecovery option. It worked well but I am having trouble mounting the databases.
The error states thatI should restore from a backup otherwise it won't allow me to mount it.

The original database was on a seperate partition and this did not work. I restored the database to the live recovery storage then copied the EDB, STM and res.log files to the new build. This was Fiday and I have not had a chance to try to mount the new files but suspect I will get the same errors....

There are no transaction files as the store files are from the recovery storage group and there is definately no corruption in the store so I am proactively trying to troubleshoot before Monday.

Its a test environment which got trashed so if need be I can\will reinstall Exchange in normal mode and not disaster mode as I know the databases will mount this way...

Question is, is there an easy fix for this 9518 ...? but the suggested fix didnt work...

Some help would be good.

TIA

james

Hi James,

Just out of interest, did you get this resolved in the end?

Hi Duran,

Well sort of....
In the end I created a recovery storage group from the live environment and copied the database file to the test environment. Somhow this worked but I am not sure what exactly has changed, my guess something in the database as the recovery storage group database had no log files.

Funnily today I have rebuild the machine again and am about to attempt to try to mount the databases again after, just like before... My guess is that they won't mount again and I will have to get another RSG from live to get it all working again...

blah blah... Any thoughts???

Thanks for your interest..

James

Well, by an amazing coincidence, I was thinking along the same lines as helenp1983, but as you can see she beat me to it. Had you tried her suggesting already?

Hi,

Today I started to try to mount my new database restored from the live environment, unfortunately I am having some problems - as I expected...

After my reinstalled exchange server went in using the /Disasterrecovery switch I trouble shot errors in the event viewer. I can't actually remember now but the error message on trying to mount the store lead me to needing to add the AD computer account back on to the Server object in ADSI, as when I removed the AD account before rebuilding the box and the installing exchange I did an AD reset, this must have removed it. I also added the computer account AD object into the permissions on the mail storage group - there is plenty of KB and help on this stuff. What there isnt lots of help on is the error I am having now.

When I try to mount the database it says "The database is corrupt" If I remove the logs which were copied from live and were created when I resotred the database to the RSG and then mounted the database I get a different error - "The database is in an inconsistent state"

my question is really 0 how can it be corrupt or inconsistant if its clean ofreash off the live system and how can I get the database mounted???

Any help would be gr8.
