I have been trying to find where to buy mounting brackets for my switches to mount on a network rack, however, I cant hardly find anything. So if anyone knows a good site or 2, please post. Thanks!!

I use these to mount all my stereo equipment in my Home Theater rack, and they do not physically attach to the devices so they work with anything. There is a 1U size too.

This attaches to the gear, but if it's not in a mobile rack (like for LAN parties) then I would simply go with the shelf.

Your best bet is to get them from the switch manuf., that way you know the holes are in the right place. What switches have you got?

First switch, I have the brackets for this one.

Second switch, this one was given to me. Do not have brackets for it.

Third, actually this one is a hub not a switch. Do not have brackets for this one either.

I am the us, just found that on a uk link. I guess I was wrong in assuming most switches had a standard of where the screw holes were? No I dont have any subliminal meaning behind that. Wanted to say that as it sounds like it lol. Anyway im still learning on this rack stuff.

Ugh, I've had no luck finding just the brackets either.

I can't say whether there is a standard hole spacing. I can swap brackets between the HP and 3com switches I have, but the Cisco and Dell brackets only fit their respective boxes.

You best bet would be some rack shelves like wahnula mentioned in his first link.

Yeah... I have several of the MidAtlantic rack shelves.

Rack ears (that's what they're called) are manufacturer-specific for the holes in the unit. And you want to make sure that you use the correct ones (or a shelf) so that you don't damage the gear with the wrong screws, inadequate ears, etc.

Easiest way would be to contact the manufacturer and find out how much rack ears for your piece of gear are.

... or use the shelves. Just be careful if you use the shelves that the unit doesn't vent out the bottom or sides.

If it does, you can add those little sticky cabinet bumpers that are up to 1/2" high...and put an exhaust fan at the rear or at the top like I do with my plasma TV mounted in a cabinet. It's a pretty neat HT cabinet, I designed it and the cabinet-makers built it when building the house. It's on wheels, with the TV opening on the left (42" max) and a 19" rack-mount on the right, all mobile so I can roll it out to deal with wiring or to adjust the viewing angle. The sub sits on the floor under the TV, the center channel speaker is hidden above the TV.

The rack is ~6' tall and I got the rails at Sweetwater (cheapest place I've found for rack stuff), my original goal was to have each of the 5.1 speakers with its own amp and EQ, have to wait a while for that. I even have a rack-mounted turntable, on a locking slide-out rack drawer. [smile]If y'all wanna see it I'll post a pic...
