Hey I was wondering, I have a Duron 1GhZ cpu at the moment and I am tired of the slow speeds, how can I find out:
1: What kind of motherboard i have and,
2: What is the Maximum cpu speed i can use

I believe when i purchased the MB, it said thet it supports upto 2100XP but i want to be sure befor buying it, thanks guys!

Best way to determine motherboard model is to open the side of the case and read what's printed on the motherboard. Else a lot of times you can catch the model number as the system boots up before Windows starts loading.

Then look up the board on the manufacturers site or list it on this forum for an answer to what it supports.

Here is some software that sometimes helps:

Belarc Advisor is designed to look at hardware and tell you what you have. Some manufacturers use motherboards with no markings on them. Lots of times these are custom ordered motherboards for large OEM's. When you buy a computer you do not have much of an assurrance what kind of motherboard they used unless they specifically tell you the information. If they do not tell you, they you must assume it is a no-name or custom ordered brand of motherboard. Other clues can be gotten from the chipset of the BIOS.

thanks alot guys! Now i know that if i would of bought an xp 2100 i would of been screwed, my MSI board only supports upto 2000XP

That's surprising. Make sure you read the latest BIOS or Beta BIOS readme.txt since the XP2000+ is a 266MHz bus and that bus is good up to the 2600+ (providing the motherboard can handle the frequency multipliers) should be an option, but no guarantees.

Make sure you read up though before you buy a new board/cpu.

Good luck!

The Duron Processor may limit the maximum bus speed.
