Motherboard temperature

everyones talking about cpu temp and whats it suposed to be this and that... no one ever wonders about motherboard temp.....mines always stable around 103 F...is that good?

The Motherboard: The components on the motherboard do not usually require any active cooling devices such as fans, although some of them, such as voltage regulators use a heat sink for cooling. These should be kept away from other heat-generating components. Also, the inside of the box should be cleaned regularly, since dust accumulation will act as an insulator and prevent proper cooling.

Capacitors are electrical components that are used to filter and smooth signals on the motherboard. For the most part, they receive relatively little attention since they are passive and not very exciting. Over time, cheaper capacitors tend to dry out and lose their effectiveness. my 80mm case fans are weak..they are around 2700 rpm..but i can only feel the air coming out by keeping my hand about 2 inches from the fan to actually feel wind. is this even helpful? or get another, faster 80mm case fan.

thanks for the link but i couldnt find anything about weak case fans...can you tell me anything about them? and them being weak actaully helps? cause i have to put my hand 2 inches away to feel wind...should i keep it or just take off the fan for less noise.

That's not all that unusual to have a case fan or two that feels a bit weak. Because they're 80mm fans, they tend not to spin quite as fast as the 60mm you may find on the CPU heatsink. This is even more likely if they were original equipment when you bought the PC. I they are aftermarket fans, they may be a little faster.
And if they spin any faster, they'll make a heck of a racket, becasue of the size of 'em. The case fans are helpful just to keep some air moving through the case, you don't need a tornado to cool a motherboard becuase, to be honest the only part that produces any significant heat is likely to be the North Bridge (most modern board have a heatsink, and some (including my Abit) have a fan on there as well).
Having said all this, 103F is pretty high :~/. Mines about 86F and thats in a hot room B-)(about 25C - that's the two day British summer for you). So, to akeep it a bit cooler (and your CPU too) make sure you tie any IDE cables out of the way to make the case as uncluttered as possible. Some zip ties or that wire they use in packing cables is good. Also check how your case fans are set up. The best I've found is one at the front sucking air in, then one blowing air out of the back. This gives a nice through flow. It's always handy to keep you case temp reasonably low, not just becasue of the MoBo, but because it saves the Hard Disks, Cards etc.

yeah that helps a lot! well i have everything set up like you said...cables are out of the way...everything is roomy...one case fan blowing in and one sucking out...but my room is pretty hot too maybe thats why the mobo is 103 and cpu around 123. Hey should i put a card cooler in there? or it wouldnt make barely any difference?

It's unlikely to make a lot of difference. It can rely a lot on the shape size and layout of the case. Mine's pretty craped up the top because of the Mo Bo shape so the CPU gets a bit warm, but the system is pretty cool. It may also depend on the actual make of the motherboard as to how accurate the temp readouts really are. Generally the modern ones aren't too far off. If you've done that stuff to help reduce the temp then there's not a lot else you can do except maybe get a new case.

Unless you're really stressed about it (which I wouldn't be and you don't sound like you are) then there's not a lot of need to spend out on a new case. If it's stable enough at the moment, then I would be reasonably happy as it is. The CPU temp is usually of more concern because of stability problems.

actually i love my mid tower case..tahts why i chose it..and its really roomy but i guess since my room is hot...its not the cases fault then...i'll see in the fall time...(i live in oklahoma, USA...hot as heck!) alright thanks for your advices and everything!
