Yep, that's really far off. Back when I used twitter a lot, it was a trend to modify most words with a TW prefix to "twitterize" them. A plague.
Actually it should only exist as plural tweeps (twitter people). The word has the root in peeps, an abbreviation of people introduced in the 1950s according to the oxford dictionaries:
