Hey Guys,

I have done several clean installs of Win XP Home Edition and I’m in the process of doing one more. Is this fun or what! I could really use some help! Installing the latest drivers for each component seems to be the answer for most problems with Win XP. For me, this tip seems to be too vague as it pertains to my monitor. Here are the details and my system specs:

System:

Intel P4 2A Ghz (Northwood)
Intel D850MVSE
512MB PC800 RDRAM
Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 40GB (7200rpm/ATA133)
GeForce3 Ti200 with 64MB DDR (Det 28.32)
Viewsonic 17” E70f
Etc.

Details: On going to the viewsonic web site, I find that there are TWO drivers for WinXP: vs_winxp.exe signed PnP (5/10/02) and vs_inf.exe unsigned (4/10/02). What is the correct way to go to get the best performance (Not a PC gamer)?

1) Go with the Det 28.32 driver only with a refresh rate fix down the road & stay with Win XP native driver for the monitor. Current status.

2) Install also the latest updated driver for my monitor(vs_winxp.exe which is signed).

3) Or install the inf driver(vs_inf.exe) prior to installing vs_winxp.exe. On one of my previous installs I received a message that the inf driver had to precede the other driver. Of course, new drivers are available now but there still are two drivers listed on
Note: I’m holding off installing the nvidia refresh rate fix, since it is a Beta. Planned on waiting until an official fix or WinXP SR1 is released to correct this problem.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated
