System:
P4 3.0 Socket 775
1 gig DDR2
Asus P5GD2 Deluxe mainboard
80GB Sata Seagate
256mb power color ATI-X600 video card
ViewSonic VG810s monitor

Problem:
Monitor blanks out randomly while on the desktop, only way to get the screen back is to turn the monitor off and then back on. When the screen goes blank the Monitor power LED stays green, indicating that a signal is still being recieved. So far my trouble shooting points to Winamp 5.08c. It only seems to happen when it's running and happens a lot more when the visualization plugin is running full screen.

Make sure the video card is fully inserted, and the monitor's cord is securely connected.

If no luck, then do a clean boot to troubleshoot it.

If no good, then reinstall Winamp, upgrade it, or use different software.

If it still happens, then try your monitor on another system, or try a different monitor on yours.
If your monitor works ok on another system, or another monitor has the same problem on your system, then try a different video card.

If your monitor has the same problem on another system, or another monitor works ok on your system, then your monitor may be bad.
