I want to give the end user the capability to modify various reports after the program has been complied into a standalone exe. I have that part working, but the problem is normally you have to open the "Reports Control Toolbar" to edit text, draw lines, etc. Is there anyway to have that toolbar open with the report whan I issue the MODIFY REPORT ... command or do I have to add it to a menu?

That setting is stored in the resource file (FOXUSER.DBF). Make sure you have RESOURCE ON, and you might want to consider switching the current (local?) resource file at the time you allow MODIFY REPORT.

Which version of VFP are you using? I know up to version 6 the report editor is disabled in the distributed runtime. I'm not sure about 7 & 8...

Rick,

I am using a local resource file already and I have RESOURCE=ON in the config.fpw. I am not sure which setting this is and how to turn it on. Can you help me with that? Thanks.

Never mind, I think I figured it out. In the IDE i set my resource file to the local one the compilied exe was using, opened the reports, opened the tool bar and saved the reports. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!

Well, I am revisiting this issue. I have found that I can make the report toobar appear in the compiled exe, but when the user does go to modify the report and then saves it, the next time they modify a report (any report), the toolbar does not appear. All users of the program are using a common resource file. If I move the resource file locally, that does not seem to solve the problem either. Any ideas?

ggrewe,

Are the users manually closing the toolbar? If so, that would explain why it does not open the next time they go in -- the fact that it was closed will be recorded in the resource file.

One solution might be to flag the resource file as read-only.

Thanks Mike,

Marking the resource file read only solved the problem.

But to answer your question, no they are not closing the toolbar, just simnply pressing "CTRL+W" or clicking on the "Save" button.
