In my modem properties box my modem shows up, but when i go into the diagnostics the only thing showings is my serial mouse on com 1. How do I remove this and get the modem working ? Cheers
Is it visible in device manager - and what modem is it? Internal, external, and the make? My suggestions are what I would try myself. If incorrect, I welcome corrections to my rather limited knowledge. Andy.
Just a thought, but have you installed the proper drivers for the modem??
Quite often, these types of modems use a "vitual port" (com3 or com4). If you don't install the proper firmware, then the virtual port is not recognized.
Go into device manager and delete your modem and both your com ports. Then reboot windows and windows will find and install your modem and then both your com ports. After it finds your modem, configure and install to the com port you want. It may ask you for the drivers so have the original install disk ready. Install your drivers, configure your modem and if you have to, your mouse...Good luck!...
Is there an error number also, like '630' or simmilar?
It could be a fault with the modem itself; You could try removing it from the PCI slot and re-seating it to see if the problem was a bad connection to the slot.
An internal modem would use com port 3, a virtual port created just for the modem. I'm wondering if there's anything in the BIOS to affect this?
Finally, has this modem worked before, and did it simply fail for no good reason? My suggestions are what I would try myself. If incorrect, I welcome corrections to my rather limited knowledge. Andy.
Firstly, backup your registry. Then got to START, RUN, and type REGEDIT. Double click HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, below it you will see a subsection called Enum, double click it to expand it. Do the same to the one marked PCI, you should now see some keys marked VEN_*******, expand each one and below it you will see another key marked BUS_******. Expand that key and each one will show you a name and data in the right-hand pane. One of those is your modem and the name will be clear. Now here's the brave bit, delete the key marked BUS_*******. Reboot, and Win98 will install your modem.

I have tried all of above but I still cant get anything to work. I've tried Two diff internal, One external and Two usb. The only half joy I get is with the usb, but when I rebbot the message "slv7554 the usb subsystemcould not configue the device" appears. Is it possable that a computer will not work with a modem.?????????????
Try disabling COM Port 2 in the BIOS and then remove the modem from your modem properties and let it autodetect again...that normally works for me when modem get all funked up on different COM Ports...Also try putting the modem in a different PCI slot on the motherboard and <if applicable> any integrated modem jumpers and BIOS settings are disabled... If there is a modem listed in Windows in either Device Manager or the Modem Properties<accessible through Control Panel>remove it and then updated your modem driver again.

I've tried all of that upteen times. Im now at my tether. When I goes into modem props and then digon it shows the modem as working bit it simply dose not. At the moment im trying a usb modem but the subsystem cannot configue the device.
What CPU, how much RAM, and what OS?
If this is Win95, you're beating a dead horse.
If this is a Compaq, HP, or other proprietary machine, you may never get ANY modem to work (except possibly an external serial (not USB)).
Does your CPU have MMX capability?
Has a modem ever worked in this machine?
Have you booted to SAFE MODE and removed all modems and com ports from device manager?
Have you restarted the computer with NO modem in, or attached?
Are the com ports disabled in BIOS?
Is PnP OS Installed set to NO in BIOS?
What driver version are you trying?
Have you uninstalled and reinstalled DUN, and run "inetwiz" to set up a connection?
Cheers,
Jim
