hi all, my friend's uncle has a modem problem in ME. He, his uncle, got this computer from his brother, who had a cable modem installed, but now, it just has a 56k dial up. The 56k seems to be ok, but he gets an error message. He bought another 56k installed it and it seemed ok again, but still more errors which are error 666, yes I know the mark of the beast etc lol?

I got my friend to go into system/hardware/device manager, and he said there is an exclamation mark. he checked properties and he said there is a programme error and something to do with the BIOS. And, the modem was set to com3 but he changed it to com1.

However, what I'm thinking is that possibly the cable modem was set up and knocked the dial up off the IRQ? Is this possible, because it appears that the error is related to a setting in the BIOS which has been changed at sometime in the past?

Is there a setting in the BIOS to correct the modem problem?

cheers khaz,

sorry, I know it is a bit confusing,
as I haven't even seen this compouter either lol!

hi guys, I did a search on goggle , seems he has to rename the
telephon.ini to telephone.old. Then do this:

In the Search Results pane, double-click the file tapiini.exe and close the Find window by clicking the X in the upper right hand corner.
Restart the computer by clicking on the Windows Start button, point to Shutdown and select Restart.
Retry the connection after your computer has rebooted.

is this correct?

cheers khaz
