You're going to need to know the make of your modem first because what you have described sounds generic. Take a look inside your computer at the modem for any part numbers \ model numbers etc.
The wave device is not needed in order to be able to use the modem for connecting to another computer.
That said, figuring out what type of modem you've got is, in my experience, one of the hardest things to accomplish. Unless the modem's got it's manufacturer's name printed on the card, be prepared to do a lot of searching and a lot of trial and error.
