Can anyone recommend advice and equipment for the following?

We are considering having our field users dial into our servers via 800 number instead of them paying for internet access. They would need to utilize email via our exchange 2000 server and also surf the web via our T1 line.

First, is this possible and second, what type of equipment should we be looking at purchasing?

Any other advice, tips or hints appreciated.

A modem to put into the server with the 800 number attached to it. Then you could setup Terminal Services and let them have theri account be able to email and surf the web.

How many users are you expecting to dial in simultaneously? You need to set up a RAS server which the users will dial into. You will need a modem for each simultaneous connection. You can purchase multi-port modems specifically designed for RAS use. You don't need to set up any terminal services because they will be dialling straight in to your private network. The phone link will act exactly as if you were connected on your network - only a lot slower. You will be able to access your email and the internet in exactly the same way as you would if you were on the LAN.

yep, that is what you need. Use RAs services, and Multiport Modems. Those usrs must have Dial rights under their Properties. A+, MCP, CCNA

Ok, that sounds good. Can the RAS server sit on one of our existing win2k boxes? Where can I purchase multiport modems at? I estimate we only need 10 active connections simultaneously. thanks again.

I knew some other vendors, but i forgot the site and name...
YOu can try this ones anyway...
In the last site, Brose until you can see PCI-RAS8

And about about the firt question; yes, you can run RAS services on one of yor boxes.
Good luck!! A+, MCP, CCNA
