Mode field in planification wizard

NB) The term may be not exact because my version is in french. Then i will translate the term in english like i think but my english is limited so please be indulgent

I try schedule a job with custom scenario. In scénario box, there is the 'Mode' field with the value 'Append' or 'Overwrite', i can't see how it's work. I didn't find it in administration manual.

Maybe someone can tell me the signification of this field ?

Append will add the new data onto the tape.
Overwrite will start by formatting the tape so all the old data is lost.

ok for the term but i don't understand when and why the state change.

I'm trying to make a differentiel scenario on five days with the following parameters.

1. Full backup on tuesday.
2. Saturday et sunday disabled.
3. The full and differentiel backup fit on only one media.
4. The rotation is first based on 1 month with 2 weeks in house and 2 weeks on external archive (voute)
5. Every first tuesday of month the precedent fileset backup is deplaced in monthly archives
6. When the twelve months is full, the last one (12e) is deplaced in annual archive and so on for the number of annual archive i want (ex. 1,3,5 orm 7 annual archives).

i don't understand the logic of the field Mode, i try change type of method or overwrite and append checkbox but nothing change.

why the monday diff. backup is in overwrite mode.
