I'm thinking about having a custom mobo made and I realized that there were a couple of interconnects that I'm not clear on. Any help would be appreciated.
1) I need to have an imaging sensor integral to the finished machine. So assuming that I spec out a CMOS "camera on a chip" I've got a digital image stream. My understanding is that this digital output would go to a DSP chip. Is this the case? Can signal processing and camera control be done better/easier/cheaper w/o a DSP, for instance a header off the USB host controller? If a DSP is required, would it's output go directly to the system bus? If so, would custom software be required to recognize and use the imager or is there a relevant Windows API?
2) Certain functions would be easier with hardcoded buttons. My assumtion is that no modification to the mobo architecture would be needed, the buttons could be wired into the keyboard input and send a strem of keystrokes, again, detectable as keystrokes by standard APIs. Is this the easiest/typical way that hardware buttons are handled on a PC?
