Mobo Dead? 1

I have an AOPEN AX64Pro mobo (ATX power supply) which powers up immediately when power is supplied. No beeps, no display, no drive operation (HDD and FDD). Operating immediately are the FANS (CPU and power supply) and the HDD LED. No power LED. It does not obey the power switch. It cannot enter CMOS settings (no display, no beeps, no CMOS loading), and does not load OS.

Tried clearing CMOS (without power) and taking out the power supply switch connector from the mobo. Same thing. Its like its dead.

I have a voltage regulator which i turn off when not in use. No surge suppressor. I connect to the Net using an external modem, no surge suppressor here too, and I do not disconnect the phone line when not in use.

Unnoticed lightning strike perhaps? Is my mobo fried?

Most likely your power suply is shot. Nevermind about the light coming on etc.

check your plugs for the front panel switches, they're grouped pretty close together on the mobo and one may have been connected in the wrong spot (speaking fom experience )

Jurgen, at first I doubted your diagnosis because when I disconnect the power supply from the mobo, the power supply does not run when plugged, and grounding the green wire (to any black wire) starts the power supply. The power supply seemed to be behaving correctly. Then I opened up my perfectly working other computer and connected its power supply to the dead mobo. Only then did I realize my dead mobo isnt dead after all. And you were right all along: The power supply is shot! Thanks jurgen.

I have a similar situation to Ron's (different m/c and mobo but the fan and light behaviour is the same).
I've replaced the PSU with an uprated model (350 to 450W).
No change!! Still no beeps from POST at hard power-on.

What is the next candidate for point of failure?

I confess that the vents to the CPU fan were stuffed with dust which I have now vacummed out. :-( How would I know if this caused fatal over-heating of the chip?
