Mobile VPN solution

Hi guys.

I was wondering if anyone could help me with the following:

If there is a problem with servers not responding afterhours at the company where I work, then we dial-up from home and use VPN client to access our firewall and gain access to the network.

My question is this:

Is it possible to get VPN client for a cellphone? Perhaps the new Nokia 9500 or the TREO or any VPN mobile client?
Possibly for the Symbian operating system.

I do know that some phones out there come with VPN software but not the client version and to use our cellphones it's not worth installing a VPN server as we have an active card token and can just use VPN client software.

I've seen pptp software for the Treo, but couldn't get it to work. I use an ssh client on the treo instead.

I have used the MOVIAN VPN client which works on both PDA and certain mobile phones. This us a IPSEC client and works well.

I have also managed to use a built in PPTP client on my PDA that connects to a NORTEL contivity.

This also works well.

The only thing is that we are using a Pix firewall. It seems like we need the compressor going at about $ 12 300
and we can't afford to spend that amount. Is there any way around this ?

Yes. The Pix supports PPTP. I tried one that wouldn't work (not connecting to a Pix), but your mileage may vary. That's the approach that I would take.

"compressor"? Maybe "concentrator"? Actually, they start around $2200 or so. The 3030 would be around $12000 and has a lot of features, mostly related to capacity and availibility, that might not be required in your case.

The concentrator won't necessarily solve the problem, anyway. Unless an SSL-based VPN would work for you, you'll always need VPN client software regardless of the endpoint used.

HAHAHA yes concentrator. I gotta stop drinkin at work.

Well that is the price we are looking at here in South Africa.

The other alternative is a RAS server but if done incorrectly we will have serious security risks. A project on it's own but that will most likely be the way we will be heading. It's alot cheaper.

If you look at the Nortel Networks range of contivity's these are realy cheap Units will pick ours up for around 1000 pounds
