In Order for a user with a Palm Treo (lastest version) phone to download email from my SBS2k3 Exchange is there anything that I need to do on the SBS2k3 to make this happen.

At the present the mobile phone is stating something about a SSL issue and the phone is not getting authenticated, I guess. There are no erros in my Event log on the SBS2k3.

I have verified that the user's account is properly configured for Mobile phone user.

Thanks,

Danny

Is your OWA configured with SSL (form based) or regular authentication? Can you get to OWA from the outside? If so, then you need to tell your Treo to not use SSL when synching. Testing OWA from outside is the first step in troubleshooting pda/smartphone synching issues. Once you can connect to OWA, then you can start working on the phone.

If this is the latest version then this is the Windows Media 5 Treo. You need to do one of 2 things. Either set up a certificate on the server and imprt the certificate on the phone and in the Active Sync settings select the box for "this server uses SSL for authentication" OR you can disable SSL checking using the tool Microsoft has available for download.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Excellent. THANK YOU, both for the help!

Mark, when I disable the SSL checking, will this open up any security risk for the Exchange? Should I setup the Certicicate on the server, is there a "read-me" article out there that I can read on how to create a certicifate?

Respectfully,

Danny

Tiger, when I connect useing my OWA I get a Security Alert window stating that...
"Information you exchagne with this site cannot be viewed or changed by others. However, there is a problem with the site's security certificate.

<Caution sign> The security Certificate was issued by a company you have not chosen to trust. View the certificate to determin whether you want to trust the certifying authority.

<check mark> The security certificate date is valid.

<Caution sign> The name on the security certificate is invalid or does not match the name of the site

Do you want to proceed?"

Here I press the "Yes" button and I'm now at the logon screen for OWA. This sound about right?

Regards,

Danny

Using SSL is preferred because it provides encryption, therefore more secure.

You can self sign certificates, and that works fine for Outlook over HTTP, however for remote devices you should have a cert issued by Verisign or another recognized company, otherwise the mobile device does not recognize the cert authority.

I hope you find this post helpful.

We had the same issue here. The mobile device did not like the self created certificate. So we decided to not use SSL for our mobile devices, but use SSL for OWA. Maybe not the most secure, but it works. Of course, make sure 443 and 80 or allowed to your Exchange server.

That is also the same general messages we get when connecting to OWA via SSL.

Back to the first point, we have 2 TREO 650's that did work with SSL with no outside certificate vender, but we also have 3 Cingular 8125's that did not work unless we unchecked SSL.

Thank you both of your help. I will pitch the issues to the owner and see what he says..

Tiger, I personally have a 8125 that doesn't work. I guess I now know the answer

One more thing... the 8125 uses the new Push Technology that is only available via Exchange 2K3 Service Pack 2. Then you have to go to the config and allow it.
