I have 2 exchange 5.5 servers SP3 and 1 exchange 2k server all are in the same org so I can move mailboxes between all 3 servers. I have email stuck in the x.400 queue for each respictive server on the E2k server which has ther error: An RPC communications error occurred. Unable to bind over RPC. Locality Table (LTAB) index: 21, Windows 2000/MTA error code: 1722. Comms error 1722, Bind error 1722, Remote Server Name Email2 [MAIN BASE 1 500 %10] (14)
and

An RPC communications error occurred. Unable to bind over RPC. Locality Table (LTAB) index: 21, Windows 2000/MTA error code: 1722. Comms error 1722, Bind error 1722, Remote Server Name email1 [MAIN BASE 1 500 %10] (14)

I have tried everything i can think of and I will admit the MTA on Email1 is not stable and requires weekly reboots to work.

Smells like DNS to me.

You should verify that your local DNS server is working OK. In particular, do ping tests to see if the Ex2K server can reach the other servers, by IP address and by netBIOS name.

If the 5.5 servers aren't using DNS, then you need also to make sure that their hosts files and\or lmhosts are updated accordingly...

the exchange 2k server can ping the exchange 5.5 servers. Any other ideas?

Can the 5.5 servers ping the 2k server by name and by IP?

Do your 5.5 servers use host files? One all night session I remember with RPC problems was solved by entering the FQDN into the hosts files.. so...

e2kserver 127.x.x.x
e2kserver.domain.com 127.x.x.x

RPC problems are usu. all about conectivity problems (but you seem OK) or name resolution.

Hope this helps...

I was using dns I updated the hosts file and still no go under queues X.400 the connection state for email1 (remote delevery) does not say "active" it is "retry" I would also like to delete one of the X.400 queues.

Is your SRS service OK? How did you install Exchange into your org? Way back in the mists of time I remember that your 5.5 servers had to be SP4 b4 you went ahead with an Exchange install. or did you 'just' upgrade email3?

You are using DNS on your 5.5 servers and on your 2K server. Make sure that no external ISP's DNS appear in your TCPIP settings....

I'm hitting the road now... I'll check back lata with you...

Hope this helps,

RobbyB
