We will soon be four-digit dial linking a Mitel (model unknown at this time) phone switch with our Nortel 61C. Anyone aware of any known issues with trying to set that up between these two kinds of switches?

We use QSIG links for that. Depending on the Nortel license (Networking or not) and installed patches (Just up-to-date and depending of sw version QSIG patches) it works like a charm.

Marc - I'm not familiar with QSIG. Briefly, what would need to be done on either switch? (I've found out that the Mitel is a 3300.)

QSIG is just another ISDN protocol; you build the DCH with QSIG as the interface (probably the ISIG flavor), give it the RCAP you want, and then build your route, specifying the QSIG protocol there as well, then build your trunks as you would any digital trunk.

QSIG has most of the capabilities you'd expect - calling name / number, message waiting, etc.

Like Matthew said QSIG is just another ISDN protocol. ISIG (ISO) for US and ESIG (Euro) for Europe.

You only have the capabilities if you have networking software in your switch. If you don't it's just CLID. Maybe MW and MAYBE some other, but I'm not sure.

There are some things to consider before you start programming. Especially for the Mitel guys. I always get a lot of complains when I "demand" that they keep the programming to the country standards (We use ESIG and not ISIG) because it seams to be a pain to reprogram trunks in a Mitel.

- Who is going to be the master (The 1 with the public lines should be)
- What protocol are you going to use (ESIG or ISIG)
- CRC4 (61 can't do CRC4 if I remember correct)
- Line speed
- etc
